Collaboration played a pivotal role in the success of this project. StoneWorks Stonemasonry worked closely with the architects, leveraging their expertise to meet the demanding standards set forth. To ensure the flawless installation of the foyer feature wall and stairwell, StoneFace Ltd, a trusted partner, supplied the mechanical system and conducted meticulous internal installations.
Our solution involved the utilisation of the innovative STONEMEC™ system. We attached a STONEMEC™ channel frame to the weatherproofed external wall and frame, providing a secure base for the natural stone veneer. By employing stonemec support clips, we achieved a hidden fixing solution that accommodated various sizes and weights of the stone veneers.
The decision to incorporate hidden fixings brought numerous advantages to the project. Firstly, it greatly enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the facade by eliminating the need for visible fixings. This approach created a seamless and uninterrupted look that elevated the overall design. Additionally, the hidden fixings contributed to the longevity and durability of the natural stone veneer. By preventing water ingress, potential issues such as staining and deterioration were mitigated, ensuring the facade would stand the test of time.
In 2015, Christs College embarked on a remarkable architectural project to extend their West Wing and create an internal lobby stair set. This case study highlights the successful implementation of the STONEMEC™ system, showcasing the versatility of traditional stonemasonry combined with mechanically fixed veneer. Despite the challenges posed by the Christchurch earthquakes, the collaborative efforts of StoneWorks Stonemasonry and StoneFace Ltd resulted in a stunning transformation that met the exacting standards of the architects.
